Engaged: Casey and Sammy

Casey and Sammy are no strangers to Maui, they love escaping the rainy Oregon weather to visit their family on the island. So when Casey popped the question, they knew their upcoming trip to the Hawaiian islands was the perfect place to do their engagement session.

We originally talked about a photo shoot in the sunflower fields on Oahu, but just days before our session we found out they had been cut down for the season. No worries! We went over a few Maui options, and a morning meetup at Baldwin Beach was the perfect solution. A visit to the surfboard wall in Peahi, and a visit to Starbucks was the perfect way to spend the morning.

Congratulations Casey and Sammy!!

Maui Family Vacation Photography

Like many of our friendly Canadian visitors, Sara and her family try to come for holiday as often as possible. For many that is every other year, or even each year. This year, they contacted Ardolino Photography for a multigenerational family portrait on the beach before returning home.

The weather was back and forth, so we chose a couple of tentative days for their photo shoot and finally had a beautiful day amidst two storms that was perfect for a beach photo shoot. We met at White Rock and had about an hour to take group photos, relax, and watch the kids skip rocks on the waves – they were really good at it!

Thank you to Sara and family for spending time with me on your vacation!

Winter Photo Shoot: Laura and Kenny

For me, the great thing about visiting my childhood home for the holidays is the opportunity to photograph clients in my old stomping grounds. I have been exploring Lithia Park in Ashland, Oregon since I was a child. There are so many fond memories there, and was fortunate enough to make some more.

Laura and Kenny will be celebrating their five-year wedding anniversary this year, so it was about time I had another fun photo shoot this lovely couple – I shot their engagement photos!

It was a pretty chilly day, the temperature was around 40 degrees, so we grabbed a coffee at Mix Sweet Shop and headed out on foot to explore downtown and the park. Because of the weather, there were not nearly as many people out, so we were able to goof around and just have fun with it!

After about an hour and a half, we called it a wrap and headed to The Black Sheep for some warm scones and a pint to celebrate a successful photo sesh.

Family Photo Shoot: Include Your Pets!

fbpost-2

Are you planning a family photo shoot? Don’t forget your pets, they are family members too!

Here are some tips on how to include your pet in your next family photo:

1 – Choose somewhere familiar. Your pet will be more comfortable in a location they have spent time at or recognize.

2 – Can your pet travel, or would it be better to arrange a photo shoot at home? A photographer can help you plan ahead and answer any concerns about what choice is right for you. If you choose to go to another location, talk with your photographer about the ideal spots and what to bring.

3 – Bring treats or toys to make your pet feel more comfortable. It also gives the photographer something to bribe them with if they respond to treats 😉

4 – Bring water, and shade. If you are going to be in a hot, sunny area, plan as if you were taking your pet out on a day trip and pack accordingly.

5 – Feed your pet a snack before the photo shoot.

6 – Allow more time for your photo session. Animals will react differently in different situations. Sometimes we get lucky and it is smooth sailing. Other times the pet may become distracted, need a break, or just need time to adjust to their surroundings.

7 – Dress your best, and your pet too! Use their nicest least, collar or harness, their best fish bowl, their cutest bandana … well, you get the picture!

Do you have any tips on including your pet in your photo shoot? I would love to hear from you!

Photos: Chelsea and J wanted to include Sammy and Clover in their photos for their 2014 Christmas card, so we headed down to Mai Poina ‘Oe La’u Beach, a familiar beach spot for the whole family.
